Genuine Idiocy

There's something lurking outside my flat door. Something deadly, addictive and pricey. I'm so engrossed by it everyday. If I don't see it in any day, it will be a very strange day. It parts you and your moolah in exchange for one of its content.

Get the idea? It's the vending machine outside my room door. Everytime I’m studying, people will drop by and use it. The kling-kling-dit-dit-dit-ka-bong-bong-boongg! sound is just so mesmerising. As fast as lightning, I hunt down my coin pouch for some coins to slot in the machine and get myself a can of Coke. At the height of my career, I spent $3.60 for two cans of Coke per day.

However, the machine failed me on Thursday. I was humming to myself when I came back from lecture theatre after my Environment Biology (looks easy, but I’ll know the result on Tuesday) test and saw beams of white light radiated by it. The next thing you know I was hunting down my coins again.

I needed a $1 coin for washing machine (yes I do wash my clothes…) so I pocketed $2.80 and went out. First I slotted 10 cents and it wouldn’t bulge, so I took my $2 coin and slotted that in as well. The two coins were stuck in the middle of the slot, but I can’t reach it. I took another 10 cents and tried to make the coins go in. One by one, I put the rest of my coins into the slot. When I’m left with only 2 10 cents, I pressed the Cola button instead. “SOLD OUT”

Geez, no Coke after all… I frowned and pressed the coins return button. My coins didn’t go ka-blung! this time… Oh no! I lost my coins! $2.60! RM 6.50! Zzzz….

I blamed myself for my stupidity. There are three ominous telltale sign aforementioned to this incident:

1. My flatmate went to get Coke from it on Wednesday night and complained that he had to run to three different vending machines in three different locations before getting his err… squished, flattened and ruptured Orange Soda can.

2. Two hours before the incident, before the test, my friend Kristel told me about her adventure with the vending machine. “The machine outside your flat ate my money!” She exclaimed. And I thought she was just too nerve wreck for the test.

3. 9 hours before the incident, I was studying at night when one guy and a girl came to the machine. Soon they started to bang the machine and shouted “Give me back my money! Damn it! $@#%&” Zzz… Don't they ever realise that machines have no IQ? They don’t go like, “Oh sorry! Looks like Coke in my tummy is fresh out. Have some lemonade instead!”

How I wish I didn’t say that, for the next day same thing happened to me. Haiz… Oh well… And what’s the worst thing? After the incident, when I’m studying at night, two people drop by again and got something else. And they said, “Hey look! There’s more than $2 dollar change… Wow!” That’s my money, moron! But I didn’t go and demand my coins back. It would be very odd… So I just let it be. Lucky people. How I wish I get back my $2.60 next time.... Haiz….

Goodbye, Assignments?

Life's a bit boring at the moment, with heaps of assignments, 2nd essay submission, online exercises (i hate these lots)...

With no camera to seize the bits and pieces of my life here, I dunno how should I explain my utter boredom of doing assignments. Yet, I'm happy to finish my assignments one by one. It's just a joyful moment to collect your typed, edited, referenced and printed assignments from the library printer. And the realisation you won't see them again when you pop them in the pigeon holes.

I'm sorry if this post bores you. It's not my fault. My major essay was submitted last Friday and just when I thought I could finally blog again... I have to perish the thoughts. This is called UNI-LIFE.

Sometimes I take time off by indulging in the virtual gaming world. Like what happen yesterday. Slept for 2 hours 'coz my mind was too excited to sleep after playing games for 10 hours. Perhaps I should store some alcohol in case of *ahem* the necessities of emergency knockout.

I wonder how would be like in winter break... Would it be a boring time? Nah, I'm gonna buy a board game to play with my cousins and friends :)

Weekly Meal Plans

Let's talk about my dietary habituals in Aust for a change. I was gonna blog about my essay again, but that's too boring.

As we all know, there's three important meals for us everyday, not in any particular order: breakfast, lunch and dinner. Or in my case: lunch, dinner and breakfast. Breakfast is nonsense to me. I don't acknowledge them; I skip them all the time.

My daily breakfast is of equivalent to two to three ounces of chocolate milk, a few bites of raisin bread and a small chocolate bar (if I'm really hungry). Sometimes if I'm awake much earlier, I would make myself tuna sandwich. But mostly I would rather use my breakfast time to sleep, as a way to revive my sleepy eyes after playing games till late night the previous night.

Lunch... Hmm... Sometimes I would buy meals from refractory. It's usually curry chicken rice or nasi lemak, as I can't cook any of these. But I limit them to maximum thrice a week. The meals here are expensive and not worth the money. The so-called chicken rice looks like a preposterous joke compared to the authentic Singaporean Chicken Rice. I dunno why all the Westerners like them so much. Hello, fly to Malaysia (sounds like I'm promoting Malaysian tourism) or any other Asian country to savour the real taste, not these resentful replicates. A normal portion of nasi lemak can cause you more than RM20. It's insane! Can you imagine eating three plates of them in one week for RM 70+? I would rather have fast foods and burgers and fries. Oh ya, the fast food here is good and about the same price as that of Malaysia.

Sometimes I would bring some tuna sandwich or my homemade (lousy version) salmon sushi rice. Why do I take the trouble? I enjoy preparing my own meal and I'm just too impatient to queue up in the cafeteria. Occasionally I would just come back to my hostel and fix myself something to eat, which is usually unhealthy. Instant pizza, instant noodle, instant soup, instant porridge... Instant is the big word here.

Dinner is a favourable occasion when I have the time to cook, but they usually follow a particular non-written timetable, odd enough to mention. Monday: sushi rice, Tuesday: Rice + Vege + Meat, Wednesday: Salad, Thursday: Lamb Chop/ Steak, Friday: Instant Dinner, Saturday: Tom Yam and Sunday: Dine-out. Ok, maybe this is an inflexible timetable. Nevertheless, I can ensure you I have sushi rice on Mondays and steaks of any kind on Thursday.

Oh ya, can you believe that I've never eaten a slurp of spaghetti of any kind in Perth? Pasta and sauce are everywhere in the supermarkets. Yet I have never cook them. Not because I dunno how to, the inaccessibility of seafood is why. My favourite spaghetti is the Spaghetti Marina or Alio, but let's face it it's hard to buy seafood here (supermarket's seem like they've been there for quite some time) and squid is always missing.

How bout tea breaks? Well, if I'm lucky to have a free afternoon (i.e. when I don't have labs, which would be Monday and Thursday afternoons), I would make myself a cup of English breakfast tea and some chocolate chip cookies. Or sometimes it's a can of Coke (there's a vending machine just outside my flat door) with 100g of potato chips and the complementary capsicum dip. Haha...

And now, for one can of Cola, fresh from vending machine to quench my thirst. Bye bye!

Not In My Best Mood

Dunno what is wrong with me lately. Feel very depressed and sad for these past 3 days. The guy problem obviously. Locked in my little room everyday. My only talking companion, Merlynn, went out for the whole week. Can't talk to the remaining flatmates because they're all guys. Feels a bit inaccessible around them sometimes. My usual online friends all disappeared this week. I missed them a lot and want to talk with my buddies. Now I'm homesick as well. Took a much longer time for this syndrome to strick me, but now it's here. I cried in my little pillow when I was tidying my room. I miss my mommy. Feel so sad everytime I'm washing my dishes. I felt as if I'm the poor little gloomy soul hovering around my flat everyday... Hope I can recover very soon.

Havana

This song reminds me of you. The very person that I adore and wish to be with, but somehow fate seems to keep us apart. Wrong timing, poor communication and basically ill-fated correlation didn't create us a favour. I can read other's mind easily, but somehow the person that I find the hardest to read is mine. I don't even know what I want from you.

Perhaps what I wanted to do is just to let you know my feelings, not expecting any relationship of any kind. When you said you just want to be friends, I can't help but feel very sad. It hurts more than a direct no sometimes, at least to me. You attempted very hard to push me away for my own good. But how's a devoted heart supposed to change?

I thought I'd be fine. I'm a strong girl but emotionally I'm not. I find hard to express my feelings all the time. Somehow I think my subconscious mind is weeping, although I try very, very hard to suppress it. Succumbing to the feeling the stress of the overall situation. Sunk in a whirlpool of indescribable emotions. Lamentation mode.

I tried to make myself cry so that I could feel better, but not to much success. I tried to listen to music to stop myself from thinking. I stole some friend's wine to make myself sleep, but there's no wine left. When I dicing some mushroom, cruel intentions slipped through my mind. I ate a few spoonful of Gaviscon to relieve gastric pain. I cried in the shower today. Try to wash away every pain searing on my soul, yet I can't.

To the friend I was talking to yesterday, I'm sorry but I think I lied about my feelings last night. I thought I might be ok, but I don't think I am. The realisation that I have to force him from leaving my life forever from today is just overwhelming. The silly crush doesn't seem as disturbing as this. After dc, I can't stop thinking about him. I know your intentions in telling me your story but I don't think it really works. But thanks anyway! Please don't reveal yourself in this post.

I will dig a grave, put my shattered heart in a glass bottle and bury it inside. The only memory left will be in this song which I incorporated all of our moments in vivid mental images. Goodbye.

11:42 AM

I felt so ashamed of myself when I woke up at 11:42 AM today. It has happened for 4 days. I dunno why I can't wake up at 8 AM. Mission impossible to this lazy soul.

Wished I woke up more early to study or do something useful. Yet, it's hard for me to sleep before 3 AM. For these past few days, I slept at around 3.30 AM which was deleterious to my health.

Take last night for example, I was gonna sleep at 1 AM as I was feeling a bit drowsy. Yet, some stupid idiots in the flat opposite my room were having a midnight tea party, with the only beverages served to be alcohol. Clinging sound of beer bottles colliding. Chit-chating about random stuffs (trust me, it's not hard to eavesdrop). Alternating bass boomed through my room for a good 45 minutes. Goodness! It's already 1 AM. Imagine if it's at my neighbourhood, I would have picked up my phone and file a complaint against these absent-minded party-goers.

That did happen once before: when some stupid UMS students lodging opposite of my house partying till 12AM during Mooncake Festival. The girls were screaming loudly as if they've been molested or something. Frustrated 'coz I couldn't study, I called the cops whom came in a police car and warned them in 20 minutes. Perhaps other neighbours complained about them too, otherwise why would they rushed into immediate action after only a 18 year-old teenager complained? My neighbourhood is, correction: was, peaceful at night before the UMS students moved in. Under Malaysian Constitution, I supposed it's my right to get some peace and quiet. After all, all their neighbours were asleep, unlike them.

Alas! It's Easter holiday and partying in hostel till 2 AM is permitted. Just as I thought they're gonna toned down around 1:45 AM, an obstentious black guy thought it was a good time to practise his rap. OK, it was nice to have someone rapping outside your room window. But the lyrics was vulgar, packed with rude words at the end of each sentence. He rapped for a good 5 minutes before the voice subsided.

Finally! Some well-deserved peace and quiet... Oops! The poor rappist was vomiting after his grand finale performance. And his mates were like, "Oh no! Oh no!" Zzz... I didn't even want to picture the image outside my window would be. Alcohol shot-putt through 10 meters the garden perhaps. Poor flowers must be on a protest, now if only locomotion was their middle name... Discomfort jolted through my nerves as I tried to sleep, yet the revolting vomiting sound kept echoing through my eardrums. OK, confession time, I was kinda joyful to hear the poor guy vomiting. Uh-huh, serves you right for singing in the middle of the night, and disrupt my sleep!

Maybe they thought it was uncool to have their mates vomiting like that. Speaking of which, a guy in the camp I attended last month refused others to check on him when he was heavily drunk and vomiting. Maybe their reputation were at stakes here. Weird vibes...

Oh well, glad anyways. Unfortunately after that, I couldn't sleep and was pacing around my room, agitated before Mr. Sleepy found me at around 3.30 AM.

An Egg (Updated version)

I received a chocolate easter egg from my flatmate today. Quite an unexpected surprise. I was busy playing game and he just came into my room, "Jiaming, here's an easter egg for you." I was like... "Geez, thanks..."

Didn't know people really celebrate Easter Day. I thought it was just a holiday. Wait a minute, every festival is a holiday to me. With the exception of Mooncake Festival, where nutrition is a main criteria. Alright! You caught me. Mooncake is my favourite festival delicacy.

Feel a bit reluctant to eat it. 'Coz it's too cute to be swallowed up (although I'm eager to take a nip to savour how it tastes like.)

Wrapped in metallic blue wrapper with gold line design. So cute!

You can find lots of these in supermarket. Bunny and eggs designs. The bunnies (hundreds of them) just "sit" in their little nest (shelf) looking at you as if they're saying "Please buy me and take me home!"

I'll go and buy myself one when supermarket reopens on Tuesday :)

[updated version starts here...]

Went back to my hostel after dinner with my cousins and what did I find? A bunny standing innocently in front of my room door, waiting for me to open the door and welcome it (into my mouth)! Haha! SO cute! Guess I don't have to buy it at all. Nah, I'll buy another one.

But for now let me use my webcam to take photos of it... Haiz... Wish I had a camera...

It's an Easter Egg! Cadbury Chocolate fillings! Yummy!

Duh... It's still an egg...

Stupid assignments! Wanna throw a bomb onto them!!! Arghhh....

Mr. Bunny saying Hi! Will "dissect" it tomorrow.... Keke!

Easter Break

Hmm... Easter Break starts on Friday; how should I spend the time?

Hint, hint...

1. I could go and watch movies with my buddies. Pink Panther 2 is at top list.
2. I could go and hunt for a Japanese restaurant to savour my fav sashimi.
3. I could visit Perth Zoo.
4. I could go out to hunt for easter bunnies.
5. I could tidy up my room (fat chance of that happening...)
6. I could complete my lecture notes.
7. I could do some useful revision.
8. I could complete an essay that is due in 3 weeks time. Argghhh....

Ok, I'll stick with 1, 2, 6, 7 and 8. The rest can go into trash bin. Haha.... Let's face it: Wisely, is the theme of the week.

Happy Easter^^

Reminder

Note To Self:
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO SLEEP LATE AGAIN THIS WEEK...

Partying, chit-chatting, watching movies till late night (or should I say early morning?) is really taking a heavy toll on me. Surprise! I'm sick again.

Today's lecture theater was freezingly chillingly cold for no reason. And my buddies were asking "Why are you wearing a windbreaker?". "Err... Coz I heard on the news it's gonna be windy today?"

Duh... What are the 3 main reason you'll be wearing a jacket of any kind? It's either to survive the strong WA hurricane, or impress the hot chick in the room or you are sick. Since WA has not experienced any strong cyclones for the past hundreds or so years and I'm not homosexual, the obvious answer would be C.

Don't ask me why I can chit-chat with my flatmates till 4am on Friday night and Saturday night. Must be b'coz we have more in common, mutual affinity? Good grief, listening music till 3 am on Sunday night? As if I'm studying music major or something. Sheesh...

Ideal bed time this week should be 11p.m. Let's skip 9pm bedtime. It's not possibly plausible. I'm neither a kindergartener nor a senior citizen.

And you, I hate you! You stupid insomniac pathogen... Get of my life once and for all... Why do I always fall prey to you? Sigh...

Good night.

Favourite Breakfast

I went to library for 2 hours and came back carrying my super-duper heavy laptop bag.

My 2 flatmates are chit-chatting so I might as well join in the commotion, while eating strawberry yogurt (the dark side of being Malaysian, most of us have OCD in eating).

Simon: You know, what's my favourite breakfast?

Merlynn and me: Dunno...

Simon: Cereal + Spearmint milk.

Merlynn: What?! Sperm and milk? Yew! Why would you have sperm and milk for breakfast?

Simon: Not sperm and milk. Spear-mint milk.

Merlynn: Haha! Don't pretend already... We know you're always hiding something in the morning...

Blah blah blah....

Not this one, but it looks like this...

Soon, the yogurt I'm eating Ski Divine: Wild Strawberries had new label: Sperm Divine: Wild Gametophytes. Lols!

The Tears and Moans of Weekend Life

Good news!
I've typed 2100 words for my FDN essay and are currently editting it.

Bad news!
I still need 10-15 references from books and journals, restructure my essay to make it look more "supportive" in structure (aka make it look like a uni research essay), and have to print it before Monday 4 p.m. I reckon I could finish on time. Why? 'Coz I started typing this crap 2 weeks ago.

My first time in submitting an essay, complete with references in citation... so proud of myself :) Stupid references... Who invented this system anyways?

That means... I'll have to camp in the library tomorrow and on Sunday :(

:)

Today, I went to KEBLT for my foundation unit: Life & The Universe (reminds me of my essay @.@).

Found a vacant seat in a sea of occupied seat near the back of the lecture hall. As soon as I sat down, I unzipped my bag to fish out my beloved pencil box and a few pieces of paper. When suddenly...

Professor Mike: Guys, I've received some complaints from you tutors that some of you didn't complete the required readings before the tutorial and went to tuts without preparation. The required readings are very important for you to connect what you've learn in lecture and what you should know that is not covered in the lecture or incomplete. As a consequence of that event, we're gonna give you a close book test right now to assess how well do you learn your stuffs since the beginning of the semester. So books away and everything under your table! We'll have a few staffs walking around to check on you. Come on, books away!

Talk about panic attack, I didn't know there will be a surprise test today. And of course I didn't study... I think everyone panicked as well when they started to put everything under the table. God, I sure wish I did study the day before. Some other lectures walked around to check that we're not hiding any reference books around. Once they were satisfied that no one was able to cheat, they looked at Professor standing on the lecture center stage.

Professor Mike: So all the books are out?... April's Fool! Haha!

All of us were speechless for one millisecond, then everyone started to clap and laugh in unison. We're were wound up by a Biological Science professor! How fun is that! I didn't know Aussie lecturers are so cute and funny! Haha! Everyone was completely fooled by the serious-looking professor. Correction: except for my good friend, Claire, who walked in when Professor announced it's an April Fool's Trick. She only heard the clapping and laughing part. Poor girl. She missed all the actions...

Professor Mike: Ok, so now that I got your blood glucose level increase, we shall begin today's lecture....

Nice :)
